Places to Elope in Minnesota

Minnesota sometime I think can be considered a “fly over” state. But as a born and raised Minnesotan. And now a Minnesota Wedding and Elopement Photographer, Minnesota is truly amazing and has some incredible locations to elope. The land of 10,000 lakes doesn’t hold back on all of the ideas that we can make come to life to give you your perfect dream elopement.

Minnesota North Shore

If you have done even a little research on Minnesota elopement’s you might have came across a lot of search results that landed you on Duluth/North Shore Minnesota. So I am going to start there because yes, this is a great location to elope in Minnesota and the scenery on the North Shore is incredible.

I have had the privilege to spend some time on the North Shore with family over the years. The North Shore is even where me and my husband got married. The North Shore offers countless views, from Lake Superior to thick forests. There is for sure a spot for everyone. The North Shore in of itself has countless locations where you can elope. For example:

  • Black sand beach

  • Palisade head

  • Gooseberry falls

  • Tettegouche state park

  • Etc.

The Minnesota North Shore has many lodging options, from luxurious villas to woodsy cabins. As well as many incredible places to get food. The North Shore is a great place with so many options an I can go on and on about all of the locations on the Minnesota North Shore, but that might just have to be it’s own blog post one day. The Minnesota North Shore is surely something to keep in mind when eloping in Minnesota and is definitely a highly desired place in Minnesota.

Taylor’s Falls Minnesota

Another location that you may not have thought out is the Eastern part of the state. Taylor’s Fall’s is a perfect area to elope in Minnesota. Specifically Interstate State Park. Interstate State Park has two sides, the Wisconsin side and the Minnesota side. Both sides have stunning views but for the sake of this blog being titled “places to Elope in Minnesota” we are going to focus on the Minnesota side. With the cliff’s and gorgeous scenery, you can’t go wrong eloping here. When I was doing my photography internship in college I was at this location a lot and fell in love with the St. Croix river view, the forest and the cliffs. (which at the time I did not realize even existed in Minnesota outside of the North Shore). There are spots that are pretty easy to get too with a short hike, or if you like to hike and find a more secluded location that is an option too. This park can be fairly busy, so weekday elopements might be something to keep in mind to avoid crowds and people. Or even consider a sunrise elopement? (I am not an early bird but something about sunrise sessions gets me out of bet even earlier than I need too every time.) Taylor’s Falls is about an hour’s drive from the Twin Cities, it’s perfect for the couples that want a secluded nature feel without having to travel far into the boondocks. Taylor’s Falls is a cute town with adorable lodging options whether it be a bed and breakfast’s or a hotel. There are plenty of little shops and things to do in the area, your elopement will definitely not be a let down.

Twin Cities

Let’s be real, you can’t write a blog about Minnesota elopement locations without including our Twin Cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul. If you are like me your brain may automatically got to nature and epic views when you start to think about elopements. However we cannot leave out an epic urban city elopement. Between Minneapolis and St Paul you can have an incredible elopement day. There are many historical places to elope throughout the cities, some ideas can be, the Minneapolis or St Paul City Hall’s, the Minnesota Capital Building, or Museums. Between Minneapolis and St Paul there are also many parks to elope in such as Hidden Falls, Minnehaha Falls, Stone Arch Bridge and so many more throughout the metro. You can fill your day with activities you love like a stroll through a park, then ending the day going to different bars and having a good time. So when thinking about your Minnesota Elopement, don’t forget about your Twin Cities options as well!
